An Evening of Diving History - April 26th

How long have you been diving? 1 year, 5 years, 10, 20 more? Have you seen a lot of equipment and technique advances since you started diving? I know I have!

Now step back and realize that scuba began over 50 years ago, imagine how it's changed!

DiveTulsa is deeply honored to have an evening arranged with Ralph Erickson to share the history of diving with us. Ralph has a long and incredibly accomplished diving career...

Ralph began scuba diving in 1951 with some of the first scuba equipment available. When he learned to dive, you learned by doing it.

He is one of the very first scuba instructors, period. Many interested divers turned to Ralph to learn to dive safely. SCUBA instruction was very much in need of a system, a way to assure that you could learn safely.

In answer to that need, Ralph co-founded PADI. He personally crafted many of the concepts, programs and classes that are now simply the standard.

Today, to become a very highly rated instructor, you need to teach a couple of hundred students. Ralph has taught about 5,000.

During the past 52 years and 10,000 dives, Ralph has observed a lot of change in the industry and the gear. We have the golden opportunity to hear it right from him.

This evening takes the form of Ralph's PADI Dive Historian class.
